A concealed shoe was often hidden in the foundation of a house or a chimney to protect the occupants from evil forces such as demons, ghosts and witches.
This shoe was found under the floorboards of a Duxbury, Massachusetts house while renovating the kitchen. The house was built 1710.
A Northampton, England museum has a collection of concealed shoes. If you find a concealed shoe, it is very important to document the exact location of the shoe in it's environment before moving it. Unfortunately, this shoe was removed from it's location before documentation.
